First Step of the Last Step
It’s finally here, my favorite step of the video making process: editing. Our second project is close to its finale, but the video is nowhere near done. Now we begin the first step of the last step.
My partner, Adrian used his phone to edit because he is the tech savvy person in the group. While Adrian gathered all of the footage and music file on his editing app, I prepared myself to coach him through what the video should look like. With the help of the storyboard, I was informing Adrian of scene placements, where to add slow motion effects, and where each scene should cut.
Although editing may seem like an uneventful process, there are hard obstacles that had to be tackled. What makes the music video mode difficult than the commercial is lining up the music with the footage. In most of the scenes filmed, the actors are lip-synching to the song. That means the editing has to be very precise and everything must be planned out concisely. There is not much room or time to make mistakes because since all the lip synching has to match the music, tweaking a single scene could throw off the whole video.
My partner and I realized this when we forgot to add a scene in the beginning and the following footage got unaligned. This mistake was made a couple times and became very tedious to fix after awhile. As a result, we only got through about 1/3 of our music video.
This is not a good thing because my partner and I only have one more day together before the music video has to be completed. Luckily, Adrian and I have a free class period tomorrow, granting us extra time aside from our usual media class period. We plan to edit during this free period with completion as our goal. I am hoping that our next editing session will go smoother since we already learned of the possible problems we may face.
Although editing a music video comes with its own set of unique issues, my partner and I still push through. We won’t let any obstacles interfere with the creation of project 2!
