Now Onto Editing!
Now onto my favorite part of making a film: editing! I love this part so much because it's when you can really see your work come together. The film was edited on my partner's phone because he had the resources to do so.
I started off with discussing about which shots will be used in the commercial. Adrian and I looked through a lot of footage and flagged the best shots of each scene. We probably had about 5 shots of the same part of our commercial. This was most likely because we were new to filming. It took a lot of trial and error to get comfortable and get things done efficiently. After going through dozens of snippets, we added the best shots into the editing app.
My partner is handy when it comes to technology and editing. He did the messy work of making each shot was in the right place and cutting the unneeded footage. While he was doing that, I searched for the perfect background soundtrack. Extra commercials are meant to be very sappy and sentimental, so I wanted a piano piece. I feel like piano scores are an effective and excellent way to get through to an audience's heart.
When Adrian finished putting all the pieces together, I sent him the piano music I found and added it to the commercial. We were really excited because it looked a legit Extra commercial. We admired our camera angles, specifically, the tracking shots and the low angle shots. These shots were added mid-filming and were not in our storyboard, so we were proud of how they came out. It was a good call to add them because they added to the quality of our commercial and conveyed the story magnificently.
There was only one problem: the length of our commercial.
